The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) works with 60% of schools and colleges across Norfolk and Waveney. We plan to cover 100% of schools and colleges by 2029.
What does the MHST service do?
We offer support to children, young people, your family and your school to help you manage mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This includes feeling anxious or low. By “mild to moderate”, we mean difficulties that are new or just beginning, rather than problems that have been going on for a long time.
We work with you to set goals and find ways to help you feel better. We focus on helping early, before problems feel overwhelming.
We also work with schools to help you and the staff to work together so that schools feel like a safe and supportive place.
If you need more specific support, we can complete an assessment and offer:

By young people, for young people

Would you like to share your experiences of this topic with other young people?
This could be some written text, a blog post, a short voice or video recording or even an animation!

Referrals to our MHST service come via schools and colleges. To find out if our team is linked to your school or college please speak to your mental health lead, pastoral team or head teacher.
If your school or college thinks you need to be referred, our teams will always request consent from your parents or carers before starting the referral process. We may not need to do this if you are of an age and maturity to consent for yourself.
You can also self refer by making a request for support.
Our MHST service works as closely with your family as possible. We will include them when appropriate in your care.
