Medication

Taking medication can help us feel better. Medication come in different forms, such as tablets, liquids, capsules and creams.

Packet of tablets, bottle of medicine with a red cross on the label, and a yellow pot of medicine.

You may be given medicines for different reasons, for example:

  • to help with a health condition, including mental health
  • to prevent disease
  • to ease symptoms, like pain or itching
  • to replace something your body needs, like hormones or vitamins

Starting a new medication can be a big decision. It's important that you understand the medication you're taking, the reasons why you're taking it and possible side effects. If you’re worried about a medication, or have any questions, speak to your GP or a trusted adult.
